Tidbits # 3: Universal Design for Learning & Digital Citizenship

Why is Universal Design important?? In addition to enhancing the students' learning experience, UDL also works to eliminate the barriers in the classroom which distract the students from learning.

Identify a technology that satisfies each of the three different disciplines/domains: Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression.

A: Communication Technology: Television-used for sending important messages advertisements or audio and visual; Internet-allows global access, cell phones - group or individual messaging, email.

B: Electrical Technology: Computers, Software - which are programs that provide the computer function or provides tools for the user; Artificial Intelligence - to provide users with assistance if  needed. Audio and Visual technology is also a form of electrical technology.

Two examples of being a Digital Citizen in today's world. To be able to answer this question you need to understand what a "Digital Citizen" is. A Digital Citizen is a person who develops skills and has the knowledge to use the internet and effectively use their devices. So that means just about everyone is a digital citizen.

My 2 year old granddaughter can find the snap chat app on my phone and tap on the right icons to make the different faces come up, she also likes to open the camera app and takes tons of pictures of her face, LOL!

I use my phone or computer to shop and communicate. Whether its buying groceries, or texting/calling family, friends or coworkers.

We are living in a digital world, one day we will be living like George Jetson.
